BIM and why ALLVR chose it?
BIM has been around for several decades and it
is not a new concept but it is relatively new to the construction sector and we
haven’t been more excited. BIM has started to be used in many areas and
industries over the past 10 years due to the increased advancements in
technologies.
But before that, what does BIM stand for?
Building Information Modelling is a 3D model based process and tool that allows
architecture, engineering, and construction professionals to design, construct,
efficiently plan and manage buildings.
BIM in Construction
The construction industry has been an industry
that has grown and evolved from its old traditional ways very slowly and as you
know, technology has developed, advanced. Many industries got on board and
incorporated new technology quickly and happily. However, the construction
industry found ways to avoid incorporating technology but nevertheless, there
are many advancements tailored to construction that they could not turn a blind
eye too.
It is interesting to note that according to
National Building Specification surveys, the percentage of companies using BIM
has jumped from 28% in 2007 to 62% in 2017. By 2020, the number of companies
using BIM is expected to increase to nearly 97[BG1] %.
Buildings and projects take a very long time to
be completed with a big and important part being the planning section which on
average takes several months; especially when waiting for approval on the
planning permission from the government. Any means to speed up the planning
stage stress-free would be beneficial to everyone, right?
An example of a project that is still ongoing
till this day is the new Berlin airport which started construction in 2006
after 15 years of planning! That is a very long time! The completion date has
been postponed many times with the latest being October 2020. Fingers crossed
that they meet that deadline!
Back to BIM…
According to BIM World, there are Key themes to BIM which are:
According to BIM World, there are Key themes to BIM which are:
• BIM collaboration
• BIM visualisation
• BIM best practice
• BIM capturing
ALLVR fits in with the BIM collaboration theme
which means it’s a great platform for construction professionals to plan
upcoming projects with others such as engineers and architects.
What is ALLVR all about?
However, you are probably thinking…what about
the option to collaborate in real time and have live meetings? Well, you are in
luck! ALLVR offers a unique experience where we create a real-time
communication and collaboration platform for efficient construction management
based on BIM data. This consists of stakeholders being able to make changes
within the 3D models and assign others tasks all in one space.
Why did we choose BIM?
In a nutshell, we bring BIM, people and
processes (efficiency) together in a new structured collaboration process on
our platform.
Especially, a project like the ongoing new
Berlin airport would have benefited from our system and theoretically reduced a
lot of time, just saying!
